Retirement – The Next Phase!

I know that I have been very preoccupied regarding being retired since this is fairly new to me, mainly because I have never been retired before!

Most people have graduated from high school or college before, been married before (two or three times), had children before (4 or 5 times), gotten divorced before (see the above), and with each one of those events, we all thought to ourselves this will be the next phase of my life and it should be, but being retired is entirely a different phase to embark on for me.

When I tell people that I am retired, their comments are always, “what are you going to do now”?   I never really thought that I had to do anything, I felt as if I had did plenty when I worked, but for some that isn’t enough.

So I started thinking about giving a quick response back to their questions, like “I’m going to travel!”  People love to hear that one, and with that response they hardly ever ask, “travel where”?   Now if they did ask where, whenever you said, “a cruise”, they would be so envious.

Even though traveling for me, now a days, is not that much fun.  I keep hearing so many horror stories and so many different procedures you have to go through just to travel, so I guess I won’t be going on a NASA Mission anytime soon!  Don’t get me wrong, I like to travel, just in the comfort of my own home, ok, I’m joking!  Sheesh!

Now, I don’t know many retirees, personally, but when I run into some that have been retired for a little while, they usually put their time and energy into new hobbies or interest that they never did before!  Some travel, are involved in book clubs, gardening, dancing or going to movies, on a daily basis, and all of that is great, but I just really haven’t  found my niche yet, or do I need one?

Truthfully, I am happy just ‘to be’!  And you can fill in that “to be” how you want!  If I started listing my ‘to be’ list, it would definitely be a very long one!  It’s fun just doing things without an itinerary.  If it feels good, do it, is my motto!  I don’t always plan things, and that is why it’s fun being retired!  My next phase is, being happy!!!

I agree your article points. My reading has shown your ideas to be true, however I have also read the opposite from other posts like this one. Do you have any recommendations for locating more quality information on gardening or related topics? I would definitely appreciate it!
