What is the best way to find out what the bloodlines on the doberman pinscher breed?
There are letters in front of the registration numbers. I know any with Z means of white genetic background, but would like to know different bloodlines to better my breeding. Many questions are asked about the bloodlines and I would like to have more knowledge to make my program better in the future.
Really there are two ways to find out – the first would be to contact the registry that issued your dog’s papers (AKC? UKC? CKC?) directly, and ask for additional information on how to read the pedigree.
The second way is to find a knowledgeable breeder or group of breeders, and see if any of them know (chance are, someone else has wondered this too!).
I’d suggest that you do both, actually. Option #1 will give you the answer to your question straight from the horse’s mouth. And in any good breeding program, you’ll want to establishing as many relationships with knowledgeable longtime Doberman breeders as you can. You’ll never stop learning new things about your chosen breed, and it’s good to have mentors for the thousand and one questions that will eventually crop up!
